Those who do teach themselves | The Luminous Portrait

You know when you're a kid, and you are urgently waiting for that letter to arrive in the mail from your pen pal? The anticipation is harrowing. Had there been a way to prove it, you would have said for sure that the hours were definitely longer that day. Like a dog waiting for its master to get home, I longed for the arrival of this book.

She looks, talks, and acts like a beautiful new friend. We are besties off the bat, and all I have done so far is glanced through the pages in a used book store and taken her photos for this blog post. Some things you just know, alright?

When the time arises between shoots, I try to focus my energy on studying photography. This book reached through the blog post by Claire Pettibone and said "Text me. We'll do coffee and talk photos. You'll never be the same."Needless to say, I knew it was time to learn a thing or two more about photography.

Sometimes you have to take something you know and sit with it until you know it better.

Whether it's reading The Luminous Portrait by Elizabeth Messina or just googling a new technique for poaching eggs, take a moment this week teach yourself about something you already do and be all the better for it.
