Rachel + Hans | Engagement | Manhattan, KS | Rose Wheat Photography

Say hello to Rachel and Hans, a lovely couple that is getting married this September. Their light spirits, creative minds, and, most importantly, their love for each other leaves me so eager for their autumn wedding. I can only imagine what they are going to pull together!

Their shoot was jam packed with ideas as you'll see below---a DIY tent fashioned together with the help of family heirlooms and Hans' refined boy scout skills, freshly picked wildflowers, and a clear passion for books. The great people at The Dusty Bookshelf were kind enough to let us use their space for some fun, literature-filled photos.

Something super special about these two? They're hitting the pause button on kissing until their wedding day. I can't imagine how hard that will be, but I can only guess they are motivated by their love for Jesus and their desire to pursue purity---even up to the moment they say "I do."

Scroll away for some fun-loving engagement goodness, and leave them some love in the comments. section!

Amy + Mike | Engagement | Buston, KS | Rose Wheat Photography

They met at a stoplight. Amy and her friends had a bet going that night. Whoever got the most valid phone numbers won. A little persuasion and a few eyelash bats got Amy a number. That night she won not only the bet, but access to her future husband.

Years passed, and they talked intermittently, but nothing really happened. Not until Amy moved back home from college in Texas anyway. Sparks finally flew between Mike and Amy, and before she knew it she was standing in the middle of a kitchen before her boyfriend who was on one knee, asking her to be his for the rest of their lives. Surprised and overjoyed she (obviously) said yes.

We shot Amy and Mike's engagement session just outside of Bushton, KS. We traversed the area constructing a quaint country shoot. The light was soft, and the breeze was softer. I wouldn't have expected otherwise for these two. :)

I am so pleased to share their lovely little session with you!

Introducing: A Rose Wheat Intern | Manhattan, KS Wedding Photographer | Rose Wheat Photography

As Rose Wheat Photography progresses and grows, something that I want to emphasize is change. Some of the most impactful moments in my life have been during times of transitions, when things became something less of what they were and something more of something else altogether. What is true in my personal life is also true in my photography business.

This year, I decided to take a leap—adding on not on not only new camera gear, but new people. In light of change, I would like to introduce to you Rose Wheat Photography’s first ever summer intern. Give a warm welcome to Emma!

That’s right, Rose Wheat Photography now has not only one but two Emmas on board. You can expect to see her, camera in hand, helping me on out during weddings this sumer.

As a former bride of mine, I’m especially excited to have her on board.
She’s kind of a big deal! ;)

Warm wishes and happy Thursday—

The Shoults Family | Redeployment | Ft. Riley | Rose Wheat Photography

This woman has patiently waited for the arrival of her husband from Afghanistan. While I've experienced a deployment myself as an army wife, her situation was a little more painful than mine. Days after her hubby's deployment, she gave birth to their first child. She allowed me to document her at the peak of her pregnancy, as well as while she gave birth, sans husband, like a champion. It only seemed appropriate to be present when they reunited.

After months of skype sessions, phone calls, and e-mails, her husband got the chance to hold their daughter for the first time ever. Can you imagine? Fathering a child into the world and all you have for months are all that a computer can provide. Finally. Finally. He got to hold his baby last night for the first time---ever.

Christina got to chat with her husband on the phone minutes before she saw him in person for the first time in months.
He was already on post, and she could hardly contain herself!

When you haven't seen your husband since September, you're going to focus on every last detail of your outfit. Love her chunky rings and bracelet.

She saw him for the first time, as commander, only feet away.

I'm sure they're snuggling, giggling, and learning to love each other all over again. This time, though, there's another person factored in who has clearly stolen their hearts. I'm so happy for them, so thankful I was asked to photograph their redeployment, and simply overjoyed that a family, once separated, is reunited.

Wish them well on this momentous occasion!

Elizabeth + Sean | Manhattan, KS Engagement Photographer | Rose Wheat Photography

Elizabeth and Sean were easily the most giggly couple I have ever had the pleasure of photographing. It's kind of insane how stinking happy they are--not just as individuals, but together. I would venture to say that every moment they are together, they are at their happiest simply because they're together.

Three and a half years of dating, and Elizabeth and Sean having officially decided to tie the knot. No matter what, I know their wedding is going to be a joy-filled event. When happy people throw a party, happiness seems to be the host more than the people themselves. Keep your eyes peeled this June to see if my little prediction proves true!

In the meantime, wish these two well as they are days away from uniting in holy matrimony!

We had a little tilt-shift fun. What you see here is the result of asking happy people not to smile... more smiles!

We were blessed with an amazing Kansas sunset that was absolutely showing off for these two. Cherry. On. Top.
